Last year I went to prison for my involvement in a protest about an increase in police powers which also fell on the day of a vigil mourning a woman who'd been killed by cops in the UK. I do not believe in the police, nor the criminal justice system. I went to the press about how I was handled by the CJS which only made my situation worse, however, I do not regret shining a light on the sheer amount of exploitation and corruption that exists within the institutions allegedly designed to protect us. I was given 9 months for a completely fabricated crime. As I began probation I realised that being an activist for over a decade wasn't going to work in my favour, and it didn't. My license got extended, I was made to come to appointments, asked to snitch on people (I didn't, obvs) and had to abide by pedantic rules. Today was my last appointment, and on the 29th of July I'll be free from license meaning I'll be a free citizen. I'll always have my conviction, not the one the CPS gave, but the conviction that I did nothing wrong, and I will continue to fight for those who are criminalised by the police and the state.
