Normally when I am dating someone I am super interested in I move at 100MPH. I rush things. I become addicted. Sometimes it's addiction to the company, to the flattery, the attention. Other times it's the excitement of finding someone new. In hindsight I always realise the person wasn't right for me, and that I was addicted to the possibility of something perfect. It doesn't feel like that with this new person I am dating. We've taken things slowly, not become obsessive with each other, and we value our own personal space and time. It's healthy for me, I've discovered. The impulsive side of my brain is enjoying the slower pace, bizarrely. I guess it feels like a more sustainable and reliable access to dopamine. I'm striving for it, but I'm not chasing it.
